Every week we do 8-9 different activities to help the children to understand the point of the lesson, that it is not only a story in the Bible, but that God wants us to learn something, grow closer to Him in Jesus, and apply the Bible to their lives. The reason for this blog is to gives the parents ideas to bring the lesson home with them and help reinforce the the children learned so the enemy doesn’t try and snatch it away.
2] Welcome Activity:
As the children arrive we immediately begin teaching the lesson through a fun game. We explain to them why we are playing the game.
3] Circle of Prayer:
Every week once the kids have arrived, we begin with prayer. The quicker the kids are taught to have a lifestyle of prayer, they will continue it as they get older. We ask the kids for their prayer requests, what they want to thank God for, if they want to say sorry to God for anything, and from time to time, we teach the kids how to lead prayer. We want them to understand that prayer is simply a conversation between them and God in the name of Jesus, as well as to feel comfortable with Him when they are not at church.
4] Lesson Introduction:
Before we get into the meat of the lesson, we open with something easy for the children to relate to, like a preview.
5] Bible Lesson:
Bible Lesson: Here we read from the Bible, help them to see what is going on, point out the lesson that God has for us, and how it applies to the children’s lives. As we teach and encourage the kids to always look for what God is doing.
- What does He want us to see?
- What does He want us to learn?
- Is He giving us an instruction or
- telling us to stay away from something?
We ask them questions to make them think and allow the Holy Spirit to work in their minds so they can see what God wants to say to them. This is also where we present the Gospel to the children, as they see God’s heart for them in His scripture.
6] Bible Verse:
Every lesson we help the kids to memorize and understand a Bible verse that helps them further understand the point of the lesson. The more scripture they memorize, the more the Lord will use it in their lives to keep them close to Himself.
Children are very visual and they learn well by using their senses. Here we use object lessons (lessons using objects) to help the children further understand the lesson they were taught. Often times we include them so they are part of it.
8] Review Activity:
We will close the class out with a review of the lesson by playing a game or doing a craft. The kids continue to have fun, they are moving around, and the lesson is being re-emphasized.
